Read two contrasting novels over the past few months.
The first one, "The Life and Times of the Nawabs of Lucknow" by Ravi Bhatt, will take you to the glorious and artistic era that catupulated Lucknow as a viable alternative to Delhi in every sense. The book is a fascinating account, right from Saadat Khan (governor of Awadh) to the 10th and last nawab of the Awadh dynasty, Wajid Ali Shah. It has some very interesting stories to share. The royal cooks made even the cooking of a 'dal' (pulses) an art of sorts. Must read if history fascinates you, and surely if you are a Lucknowite!
The second has already generated a lot of interest worldwide, and some big bucks for the publishers. I'm talking about Paulo Coelho's "The Alchemist". In a nut-shell its about following your dreams. As the author says in the novel, "When you want something, the whole universe conspires to give it to you." I believe him!

The Alchemist changed my life, it was one of the best books I've read. :)
to read " Of nawabs and Dreams !" is indeed a dream to ME.

The best book on Lucknow and its Nawabs has to be Guzishta Lucknow (Eng Transl - Lucknow: The Last Phase of an Oriental Culture) by Abdul Halim Sharar. It is commonly available in various libraries and book shops (online as well).
